Hi Maya,

I've read most of your story when I stumbled upon your blog through a posting on the Wild Fox project on Tweakers.net. I was surprised by you sharing your view on the daily struggle you seem to have and emotionally touched. Saw some other posts on this forum as well and decided to register to show some support!

I think it is pretty brave to show the world in an open kind of way what you are going through on a day to day basis including the frustrations. Made me think about my own situation and that's a good thing. I've been sick now for almost 3 weeks (had an accident) and ended up in the hospital where I got a CT/MRI scan to see if my shoulder was alright and I didn't have any internal bleeding. Easy as that, while you are having a hard time to get heard by some medical professionals.
My mind went back to the last checkup they did on me this week. My attending doctor (a surgeon) went trough my case and was clearly short on time. Really got the feeling that if the man couldn't use his scalpel on me he wanted me out of the door asap. Kinda draw the conclusion that these people need to train their soft skills more or even get involved in holistic medicine as well to understand more of what their patients feel and really want. Think that's the same thing you are running into, just people who dismiss you in disbelieve without even taking you 100% in consideration (off course my case pales in comparison to yours).

Back in the day both my brother and me had an allergy due to one of our pets. The verdict on my brother was pretty clear: we will operate and he will be deaf. My mum wasn't satisfied with that and demanded a second opinion, which was very uncommon in the 80's. Thanks to that, I don't have to shout to my brother now It also shows how slow the medical world comes around, however a second opinion on bigger matters are much more usual nowadays (took some years though..).

As for now, I'm very curious if you get your wishlist done and how this will be helping you to accept yourself as who you are or who you want to be ;) Think it's awesome you're sharing it!

As far as I'm concerned: I just read a story about someone who is brave enough to go out to the world, tell a story and touch hearts. Many people live their life in emotional hiding and die unhappy when they realize they never tried hard enough. That's not the impression I have from your story, I salute you with deep respect and hope your journey will take you where you want to be.

Here's something I once came accross reading old literature (literally VERY old literature ) which seems to fit here :)

Mens sana in corpore sano

orandum est ut sit mens sana in corpore sano.
fortem posce animum mortis terrore carentem,
qui spatium uitae extremum inter munera ponat
naturae, qui ferre queat quoscumque labores,
nesciat irasci, cupiat nihil et potiores
Herculis aerumnas credat saeuosque labores
et uenere et cenis et pluma Sardanapalli.
monstro quod ipse tibi possis dare; semita certe
tranquillae per uirtutem patet unica uitae.

It is to be prayed that the mind be sound in a sound body.
Ask for a brave soul that lacks the fear of death,
which places the length of life last among nature’s blessings,
which is able to bear whatever kind of sufferings,
does not know anger, lusts for nothing and believes
the hardships and savage labors of Hercules better than
the satisfactions, feasts, and feather bed of an Eastern king.
I will reveal what you are able to give yourself;
For certain, the one footpath of a tranquil life lies through virtue.

Take care now,

Michel

Thank you, Michel I'm glad things turned out fine for your brother as well thanks to your mom. It really shows how (sadly) it's necessary to do some of the homework for the doctors and similar we encounter.
